Accuracy

The calculation logic is covered by an automated test suite spanning whole numbers, decimals, negative values, very large numbers, zero, division by zero, floating-point precision and rounding. Even so, no software is guaranteed free of defects, and no warranty is given that every result is correct or fit for a particular purpose.

Two practical limits are worth naming. First, calculations use standard double-precision floating-point arithmetic, which is what every browser and spreadsheet uses; results are cleaned up to remove its familiar artefacts, but extremely large or extremely small values can still lose precision. Second, displayed answers are rounded — where a result is rounded it is marked with ≈, and you should not treat a displayed figure as exact to unlimited decimal places.

Verify before you act

Please check any figure independently before using it for something consequential — a contract, a tax return, an academic submission, a financial commitment or a medical dosage. Every calculator shows its formula and full working precisely so that you can check it.

Rounding and real-world rules

Real-world percentage calculations often follow conventions this site does not apply: tax authorities specify particular rounding rules, retailers round prices in particular ways, and institutions weight exam marks according to their own schemes. The arithmetic here is the standard mathematical calculation and may differ from an official figure for those reasons.
